Information about Egypt Currency: The currency in Egypt is the Egyptian pound. 1 pound is 100 piasters. Due to the fact that this currency is subject to inflation, it is advisable to change only 50EUR or 100EUR at the time. At the moment, 1 Euro is just over 7 pounds (1 pound is approx. 15 eurocents). It is not advisable to change your money in the Netherlands. It is possible to change your money at the airport, but this is relatively expensive. The exchange rate in hotels or banks in Egypt are more favourable. Do not change your money privately. There are no coins, but only notes of EGP 100, 50, 20, 10, 5 and 1 and 50 or 25 piasters. Make sure that you always carry small notes with you, because it is very difficult to get change. Best is to pay the exact amount. Please note the difference between a note of 50 pounds and a note of 50 piasters, because it is very easy to confuse the two. At many places, they accept Euros as well. However, this is not advisable because for the Egyptians, this is a hard currency and they charge a higher exchange rate.
